UBD's Story

“Unfinished” is the term I chose for my small business because when I first started creating art – I felt like none of my pieces were actually completed. Something was always missing for me. I would work on a piece and then sit there, doubting myself and what I saw before me. I would avoid drawing faces, avoid fully finishing a piece because I wanted to move to the next idea I had or find something to nitpick at. That was about 10 years ago or so now.

Since then, I’ve learned to work on the features I’m not confident with, embrace multiple pieces, and take the time each piece needs. If I don’t like a portion of the piece I’m working on – I set it down and come back later. There's no rush, art is meant to be fun, expressive, and a way to grapple with whatever life is throwing at you. “Unfinished” has evolved from literally not finishing a piece, to being okay with wanting to continue to improve and grow. “Unfinished” inspires me to unlearn, relearn, grow, and let go. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. I’m inspired by many things, and sometimes, nothing. I am mainly inspired by American Traditional and Neo-Traditional tattoo art and styles. I love the dark and twisty, the unusual and macabre, the gory and gross, and the all-around unusual things in life. After all, that’s what makes this journey interesting.

I also really enjoy creating commission pieces and stepping outside of my "normal". It's odd, isn't it? Life? Enjoy!
